The Scout Association are delighted to announce that Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, will be taking the review at the annual scout service and parade at Windsor Castle on Sunday 29 April 2012.

The day will celebrate the achievements of new Queen's scout award holders, young people and adults who have made gallant effort, and volunteers who have made good service. This year's event is also joined by scouts from around the Commonwealth in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Kandersteg 2011

In August, 16 members of Derbyshire Scout Network headed off for a week of adventure at Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland. This was the first international county Network trip for Derbyshire, and a fantastic time was had by all.

Our adventure began with a mammoth train trip from Paris to Kandersteg, taking in Strasbourg, Basel and Bern along the way. We quickly realised that train carriages that seat 16 weren't designed for 16 people going camping for a week!

During the week we took part in many different activities, including hiking, swimming in a glacial lake and sightseeing. For most people the highlights of the trip were canyonning in the Chili Schlieren canyon near Interlaken, which involved sliding, rappelling and jumping down rocks following the course of a river and a trip to the Jungfraujoch, the railway station in Europe at 3454m.

Several members of the group chose to go paragliding during the trip, which was also rated very highly, thanks to the fantastic weather and beautiful scenery.

It is difficult to explain the fantastic atmosphere of KISC, where we met many Scouts from all over the world (as well as lots from the UK), but it is easy to say that it's a very friendly, welcoming place. I think Toby Meek summed it up well when he described it as being "addictive", several members of the group are already discussing their next trip to the centre!

A massive thank you to everyone who supported the trip, and helped us to make it possible.
