County Team - Lucy Robinson

The Network Commissioner - she'll be CSNCing you soon!

Hi all, this is a chance for me to introduce myself. I'm Lucy Robinson and I have recently been appointed as the County Scout Network Commissioner (CSNC for short) for Derbyshire. This basically means I'll be managing and supporting the Scout Network in Derbyshire and working closely with Danny Weaver (Derbyshire Scout Network Chairperson), the Derbyshire County Scout Network Committee and District Commissioners - amongst many others - to develop and support the Scout Network in the future. I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Most of you may recognise me from my previous and current roles:

Scouting experience and interests

I have been in scouting for nearly 9 years now. I started out as a member of Sandiacre Venture Scout Unit back in 2001 when I left Guides. I joined Sandiacre Explorer Scout Unit when Ventures was split into Explorers and Scout Network as I was under 18 at the time. So you could say I've been in Network right from the beginning. When I turned 18 I joined Sandiacre Scout Network and was a member until April this year when I reached the "Big Two Five".

During my time in Sandiacre Scout Network (Now Neon Scout Network) I took part in various activities and camps, highlights of my time in Network include:

I seriously reckon that Scouting has changed my life, without it I definitely would lead a very very boring life and would not have experienced some of the awesome things I have done and met so many cool people.

Outside Scouting

So as you might expect I like the outdoors being a Scout and all, I much prefer it to sitting in an office. I often do conservation work with BTCV when I get the chance. After leaving the University of Nottingham in 2005 with a degree in Environmental Science, I spent a year in New Zealand, working and travelling and also got the chance to visit Australia which was an awesome experience. Since my "gap year" I have worked in a school as a Senior Science Technician and have been working for an Engineering Consultancy in Nottingham for the last year.

I suppose the things I am most passionate about in life are Network of course, music, conservation, photography, Home an Away (I told you I liked Australia and need a little reminder each day at 6pm), only kidding, I don't watch that much telly, and the stuff I do watch is recorded shows like X Files, Heroes, The Mentalist and CSI New York.

Outside of scouting I like to socialise with my friends many of which are or were Network members, especially going to pub quizzes, cinemas and going out in Nottingham and Derby, mainly Rock City but have recently been to the RockHouse in Derby. I am a fan of many types of music including classical but at the moment listen to 'bang bang ra ra ra music' (Danny's description of my musical taste) i.e. metal, metal, metal. For example today I have been listening to Megadeth, Bullet for My Valentine, Journey, Killswitch Engage, but what I listen to tomorrow who knows. I love going to gigs and especially like to support local bands. This year I am looking forward to going to Download Festival at Donington Park, I have been for the last few years and the festival has a great atmosphere.

Events I am looking forward to this year are PubScouts Festival, a trip to Switzerland with Sandiacre Explorer Scout Unit and Download Festival.
