Frequently Asked Questions
Booking FAQs
When do I have to book my tickets?
You can book now by downloading the form
here and we would encourage everyone to book early in order to guarantee
their place and choice of tickets. This not only helps the event organisers
no end, but also enables us to book theme park tickets in advance so that
you get the cheapest rates going.
The booking deadline this year has been set for Friday 24th September 2010 and as such we cannot guarantee bookings receieved after this date.
Why do we need to provide a membership number?
Because A.T.C. is a Scouting event we need to make sure that everyone attending
is a Scout Association Member (for insurance purposes, safety and outside
relations). The only way for us to do this is to ask for membership numbers
when booking.
For Network members this should not cause any problems at all; although we understand that not everyone will know their membership number! Everyone that is properly registered as a Network member and/or holds an adult appointment will have one.
If you do not know your membership number, there are several ways you can find out:
- If you have a membership card, it is on there.
- If you receive Scouting magazine, you will find it on the paper insert.
- Those that receive the weekly Scouting Plus email will see it on there as well.
- If you're really not sure, then just speak to your Scout Network Leader or County Scout Network Commissioner - if you are already registered then they will be able to tell you the number; if not then it is a simple process for them to get you registered. This is important to ensure that you are properly recorded as a member and fully insured.
I'm over 25 at the time of the event, can I still attend?
Of course you can! The camp is aimed primarily at Network, although we
also welcome other members of Scouting, Guiding and SSAGO over the age
of 18. However, we are also looking for staff to help on the weekend.
If you are interested in helping out (and benefiting from a significantly
reduced rate), please contact us for more information.
Are under 18s allowed to attend?
We are happy to accept Network members from the age of 17½ but
it is the responsibility of the relevant host Network to make the necessary
arrangements to accommodate such persons whilst meeting The Scout Association's
rules as per POR (Policy, Organisation and Rules; available at www.scouts.org.uk/por).
There will be a licensed bar selling alcohol on site both nights. Alcoholic drinks will only be served to over-18s, and all bar staff will be instructed to check for ID as appropriate. In addition, all declared under-18s will be provided with a different coloured wristband when they check in.
We will be asking for confirmation from the Network Leader that they are aware of and will comply with all relevant Scout Association rules and requirements. Network Leaders must be able to commit to and complete the checklist below before bringing any person under the age of 18 to the A.T.C.
Event bookings will not be accepted if this list has not been completed and the organisers will treat very seriously any breach of the following requirements (this will likely result in your unit being requested to leave the event without refund).
We would, however, like to reinforce the message that these are not our rules, but are those of The Scout Association. As organisers we are obliged to follow these rules, which exist to address the potential Safeguarding/Child Protection concerns that may arise at events such as this one where there is a mix of young people and adults in attendance.
Please refer to the ATC Code of Conduct to view the Scout Network Leaders' Checklist for bringing under-18's to ATC.
General Event FAQs
I'm coming by train or plane. Can you arrange to pick me up?
Maybe! It all depends on where from, when and how many people; but if you
do need something sorting out then please contact
us and we'll see what we can do.
Where is the camp held?
The camp is held at Drum
Hill campsite, just north of Derby.
What are the travel arrangements for getting to Alton Towers on
the Saturday?
You'll need to use your own transport to get to the theme park. This is
because people have said in the past they prefer to make their own way there,
and it also keeps the cost down! There may, however, be a very limited number
of places available in minibuses if you are unable to arrange your own or
use cars and give us plenty of notice. Directions
can be found here and will be pinned up around the marquee on Saturday
morning.
I have my own Alton Towers ticket or annual pass. Do I get a price
reduction?
Yes, you can book using the "night only" rates.
Can I come for the evenings only?
Yes, although you won't be allowed to hang around Drum Hill during Saturday.
You will need to find something to do off site. Book using the "night
only rates".
What is the theme for the Fancy Dress?
There is no specific theme, instead we have an open theme, so you can come
dressed as anything you like (within reason). Show us your most creative
side to be in with a chance of winning - we get some of the most original
and spectacular fancy dress outfits found at any Network camp. In past years
we have had everything from elfs, witches, pirates and sperm; to air traffic
control towers, cartoon superheroes and reindeer to name just a few.
